Table 2 Numbers of cysts in ovaries of mice subjected to incessant ovulation (IO) or repeated pregnancy (BR) from weaning until 6–12 months of age. Ten ovaries from each group were serially sectioned to determine the extent and origin of the cysts and rete ovarii tubules (RO). The number of ovaries containing cysts of different types is given. Ovaries could contain more than one type of cyst. In one case the cyst was so large that, after aspiration of cyst fluid on dissection, the origin of the cyst could not be determined. There were no differences in the frequency of cortical cysts between groups.
