Comparison of mtDNA content in bovine oocytes and embryos at various stages of development. The mtDNA content decreases between the 2-cell and the 4/8-cell stages (p = 0.0008); in contrast, it increases sharply between the morula and the blastocyst stages (p < 0.0001).
