Stromal β-catenin deficiency results in development of luminal metaplastic lesions in Amhr2Cre/+;Ctnnb1d/dmutant uteri following steroid hormone treatment. Hematoxylin and eosin stained sections from Ctnnb1flox/flox control (A, B) and Amhr2Cre/+;Ctnnb1d/d mutant (C, D) uteri following treatment of ovariectomized female mice with a steroid hormone regimen consistent with early pregnancy [two days of E2 (100 ng s.c. in 100 μl sesame oil), two days no treatment, three days P4 (1 mg s.c. in 100 μl sesame oil) and one day E2 + P4]. (E) Regions of bilaminar stratification (black arrows) were observed within the luminal epithelium in 66% (4/6) of the mutant uteri following E2 (100 ng, 24 h) treatment.
