Obesity impairs female fertility. A The mating rates of ten females in each group during their two different estrus cycles. Data were presented as percentage and statistically analyzed by χ2 analysis (n = 20, P = 0.18 and 0.30 respectively). B Comparison of the pregnancy duration between the HFD females and ND females. The data were presented as mean ± SD (n = 20, P = 0.92). C The litter sizes of the females in their two breeding trials revealed that the average number of pups per litter was smaller in mice on a HFD than those fed a ND. This difference is associated declines in fertility and structural alterations in the female obese reproductive system. The results were reported as mean ± SD (n = 17 in ND group and n = 13 in HFD group, **P < 0.01)
