Effects of the subtype-selective α2A-adrenergic receptor antagonist BRL 44408, the α2B/C-adrenergic receptor antagonist ARC 239 and the α2C-adrenergic receptor antagonist spiroxatrine on the (−)-noradrenaline-evoked contractions in the 22-day-pregnant rat myometrium (a) and after progesterone pretreatment (b). The studies were carried out in the presence of the β-adrenergic receptor antagonist propranolol (10−5 M) and the α1-adrenergic receptor antagonist doxazosin (10−7 M) in each case. The change in contraction was calculated via the area under the curve and expressed in % ± S.E.M. The statistical analyses were carried out with the ANOVA Dunnett test. *p < 0.05; **p < 0.01; ***p < 0.001
