Review of the literature concerning the types of calcium currents involved in meiotic transition stages in oocytes of different animal models. Intracellular calcium currents may be mediated by IP₃, Ryanodine (Ry), or cyclic ADP ribose. Plasma membrane calcium currents may be mediated by unspecific or L-type channels. Capacitative is the interplay mechanism that links plasma membrane and intracellular currents.
