Panels a and b: Staining for von Willebrand factor VIII related antigen (FVIIIr antigen) shows a diffuse perinuclear pattern in type 1 cells (panel a) and a distinctive granular appearance in type 3 cells (panel b). Panels c-d: Immunofluorescence for actin filaments using phalloidin-FITC. The cytokeratin-positive (CK-positive) type 1 cells demonstrate a peripheral band of microfilaments (panel c); the cytokeratin-negative (CK-negative) cells of type 3 show a starburst-like pattern (panel d) [44].
