The endometrial folds are reduced around the developing egg and the myometrium appears distended and thinner; numerous vessels (V) are present in the lamina propria. B. Strong immunoreactivity for IL-1α can be seen in the connective tissue of the lamina propria. C. Intense immunoreactivity for IL-1β is seen in the luminal epithelium (arrows) whereas the egg envelope (arrowhead) and the yolk droplets (*) are negative. D.
